The Akademik Mstislav Keldysh is a boat that appears in James Cameron's Titanic. In real life it is a scientific research vessel owned by P.P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology and is operated by the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Besides taking part of the 1997 film, the Keldysh made expeditions to the real Titanic and the German battleship, the Titanic's sister ship, the Bismarck. James Cameron, the directer of Titanic, led several expeditions for some of his movies, including the 2003 documentary film Ghosts of the Abyss (Titanic), the Discovery Channel special Expedition: Bismarck (Bismarck) and the 2005 documentary Aliens of the Deep.
