Brock Lovett is a treasure hunter. Once said to have found Spanish gold, during 1997 he was after the Heart of the Ocean. His partners were Dave and Barry, and by the intimidated way he talked to them, they were perhaps his investors. His peers included Lewis Bodine and Bobby Buell.

He was on board the Akademik Mstislav Keldysh doing operations for recovering the necklace. He had kept a "celebration cigar" for after the discovery of the necklace. Although his critics challenged the salvage rights and ethics, Lovett claimed that he worked alongside museum experts and his findings were treated accordingly.

His first success, the discovery of Caledon Hockley's safe proved to be a failure, until he identified Rose DeWitt Bukater's drawing in it.
