With its checkered linoleum floors and oak wall paneling, the Third-Class Smoke Room was located on C Deck Aft under the Poop Deck, on the Port side. Used exclusively by male passengers, Ale and Beer would probably be available. Card playing was one of the popular activities. The Third Class Promenade and General Room were nearby as well as the Third Class main entrance. During the sinking, many lower-class passengers gathered here when all lifeboats had gone, or in the Third-Class General Room, which was directly beside it on the Starboard side.

Titanic disaster[]

Early in the sinking, a group of Third-Class men from the bow found their way to the Third-Class Smoking Room. They had put on their lifebelts and were in a panic, as their cabins had been flooding when they left. The occupants of the room, having not been to the bow and not properly understanding the damage to the ship, laughed and mocked these passengers. Several stewards grew annoyed with the passengers and began to force them to put their lifebelts off. The sight of this made the crowd laugh and they mocked the men, thinking their fear was unwarranted and entirely an overreaction.
